I was lucky to spend a few days in Appleton, state Wisconsin where I visited a KUKA Robot Advanced Programming course. I was there since the eighth of March till the twelfth of March.

Although each of our days began at eight o'clock in the morning and the classes were over at five o'clock in the evening I received really great pleasure while studying. Besides, the weather was just awful - the sky was constantly clouded and it was raining every day, in addition, thick fog made us feel melancholic. So, the course took place at Fox Valley Technical College. Our everyday studying comprised a lecture with the duration of one or two hours, after what we had a class in programming problem lasting for about one or two hours. The programming was performed on a KUKA KR 16 robot.

In fact, our studying started on Monday in the morning. Our first task was to review the material which was studied during major classes in programming. It turned out to be very interesting to me as I haven't visited major classes in programming for a few years already, so, I got pleasure from reviewing. Some of the most important safety aspects were repeated including the one when a person is not recommended to go into the working cell of the robot until the controlling robot enters the T1 mode of teaching. The working cell of the robot is some place around the robot using which the robot is has an opportunity to fulfil its major function as well as to achieve the destination. In addition, the KCP was mentioned by us. The KUKA Control Panel is called KCP which is the portable mechanism that is involved in the process of programming the robot.

While attending the major classes in programming which I used to pursue several years ago, it took us seven days to study In Line Programming. At that period of time it seemed to be a rather difficult course but, still, I found enough strength inside to cope with it. What I can say for sure is that my studying two years ago was of great help to me during this week spent in Appleton, Wisconsin. As a matter of fact, In Line Programming includes selecting a line of code (which has to be made beforehand) which will be of great help to the robot in performing any kind of functions. When a form is thoroughly chosen, you have an opportunity to shift particular aspects needed for this very line. The week we spent in Appleton, Wisconsin turned out to be even more difficult than studying the course during the major classes in programming. Probably, one of the most troublesome features of the week was learning the script of programming. Script programming requires the usage of KUKA keywords while writing anything and you don't have the right to select a ready code's line.

What has to be emphasized is that the equipment used during our training and developing our professional skills at Fox Valley Technical College was just awesome. We received real pleasure to work with such a great professional equipment as well as such highly-experienced professors. I was impressed by the fact that there were six KR 16s taking place in a huge working cell. Besides, they had two KR 6s which were not placed in the area yet. I was lucky to see two KUKA SCARA type robots. Nevertheless they haven't been used yet. Somewhere in the back there was a KR 100.
